Hog Haus Hires New Brewmaster, a Chicago Native
FAYETTEVILLE, AR Hog Haus Brewing Company co-owners Kari Larson and Julie Sill hired a new brewmaster. Steve Mazylewski comes with 18 years of brewing experience, Larson said.
Mazylewski knew he wanted to be a brewmaster since he was only five-years-old. The son of a beer can collecting father, family vacations were spent camping and touring breweries. The sights, sounds and especially smells of those tours left a huge impression on young Steve.
During high school, Mazylewski was taking chemistry, biology and math courses he knew he would need when he learned of the Siebel Institute of Technology, the world famous beer school in Chicago.
He was saving his money to attend this prestigious school when another opportunity altered his path. A brewpub in his hometown of Berwyn, Ill. opened in 1988. He was lucky enough to get his foot in the door and began his brewing career at the first brewpub in the suburbs of Chicago. After turning 21 only days beforehand, Mazylewski had become an apprentice-assistant brewer.
In the following years, Mazylewski bounced around Chicagoland, becoming Head Brewer at six different brewpubs, gaining knowledge and experience at each location. Mazylewski even trained at a lager brewery in Vienna, Austria during this time.
Fast forward to 2007 where Mazylewski has found a home here in Fayetteville at the Hog Haus Brewing Company. He’s eager and excited to supply thirsty Arkansas patrons quality handcrafted beer based on his 18 years of experience. Cheers!
